Higher Intelligence Agency was founded in 1992 by Bobby Bird during the heady days of Birmingham's legendary Oscillate nights, where he improvised & performed live, developing HIA's signature sound, as well being a resident selector. In 1993 HIA released the ambient dub classic 'Colourform' LP on Beyond Records.

To celebrate the vinyl re issue of Colourform (April 2020), the release " Preform" brings together a selection of tracks from the archive which were originally recorded around the time of Colourform's inception, some released on such ground breaking compilations as the Artificial Intelligence series on Warp Records and the Ambient Dub series on Beyond, some available only on 'Live at Oscillate' cassette tapes.

Gathered together for the first time into one release, compiled and remastered by Bird, Preform is a welcome addition to the HIA back catalog, as well as being complimentary to Colourform for which it forms part of the back story.
